Over the last decade, the Heeya Social Enterprises (www.heeya.in) has been working with a number of underprivileged women weavers across multiple districts of Assam. Barring a limited number of direct engagements, Heeya works collaboration established Self Help Groups like Grameen Sahara (www.grameensahara.org), etc. to achieve both scale and impact.
COVID has been a shattering blow to these members of the SHGs. The demand fell drastically, the money dried up, the supplies became uncertain. In short, a bunch of families with meagre income looked at a very trying and uncertain future.
Heeya felt this is a time to stand with its partners at this moment, and through the Heeya Foundation initiated fund raising exercise towards this cause. An appeal was made to all the well-wishers through multiple media to contribute any amount, and help build a corpus.
The response was immediate and very encouraging. An amount of over INR 1 Lakhs was raised from over 30 individual donors in a week’s time.
The Foundation has since been working in disbursement of the fund, with a goal of giving an immediate relief in the form of ration, a small working capital for kick starting the production, and creating some sustainable asset at the community level. All these work is being done in partnership with Grameen Sahara.
On 12th September 2020 Heeya Social Enterprises (www.heeya.in), in collaboration with Grameen Sahara (www.grameensahara.org), Grameen Silk Producer Company Limited (GSPCL - http://grameensahara.org/others/gspcl/gspcl.html) and Heartcrafted Foundation (www.heartcraftedfoundation.org) organized the annual recognition program Moinadhan Hastashilpa award.
The event started with Ms. Saikia explaining the purpose of the occasion an the goals. This was followed by the rendition of Ami Ek Jajabar by Mr. Bhupen Hazarika, and a speech by Mr. Sarat Das.
This was then following by the award ceremony and the citation reading for some of the members of GSPCL and Grameen Sahara. The award was decided by a committee which looked at both the contributions of the individuals as well as the impact.
Ms. Jonali Saikia, Managing Trustee of Heartcrafted Foundation then announced the weaver support scheme that will be launched soon. The salient features of the same are as follows:
- It will be financial and enablement interventions for a select set of weavers to improve their productivity, quality, and income in a structured manner.
- The scheme initially looks at supporting 5 women for a year with a proposed outlay of INR 10K per weaver.

Along with this, we are also focused on creating an environment of support and on building relationships with the underprivileged sections by the larger society. The foundation focuses on the identification of the target audience with a cluster approach, with a collective skill set, engaged in commercial activity, dependent on augmented income, and have the social structure to come together for a common goal. Along with our sister concern Heeya social enterprise which has, in the last 8 years been working with women, we believe that- “If you educate a man you simply educate an individual, but if you educate a woman, you educate a whole nation."
